Message from the Head of School

Parents may ask why, if we have just begun the 21/22 school year, we are already focusing on the 22/23 school year. The answer is that for us to be a school that can provide the excellent programming, facilities and faculty that our children deserve, we need to function with financial responsibility.  Hundreds of hours have already been spent on the 22/23 school budget which relies heavily upon tuition revenue. Your registration and ultimately signed tuition contract allows the school to prepare for next year in a manner that will allow our children to receive the full benefits of an Emek education.

Enclosed, please find the approved schedule of tuition and fees for the 2022-23 academic year, as well as the application timeline form which details the registration and financial aid deadlines.  You can save $250 on registration fees per child by registering by January 14, 2022, the early registration date. After this time registration will be $750 per child. Please be aware that only a signed tuition contract will guarantee a place for your child. Signed registration is necessary for us to release the tuition contract or begin the tuition assistance online process. Registration does not guarantee a place in the school. We expect many of our classes will be at maximum capacity next year. We accommodate existing parents by allowing them to register early. Once the later date for new parent registration opens, we cannot assure you that there will be a spot available for your child.  We kindly ask that you review the dates carefully and respond to the various submission deadlines in a timely fashion.

Please note registration fees are non-refundable for all parents. Following registration you will be issued a tuition contract. A signed tuition contract is a legally binding document. If parents are forced to remove a child from school mid-year due to unforeseen circumstances, they are still legally and morally obligated to pay the full year’s tuition.

Last year Emek provided close to three million dollars in tuition assistance.  The Board of Directors anticipates the school’s continued need to provide financial aid and we encourage those families in need of assistance to submit a scholarship application by the required deadline. The Tuition Assistance Committee will work diligently in a private, caring and sensitive way with those applicants to find a solution so that their children can receive a Torah education at Emek Hebrew Academy Teichman Family Torah Center. We will try and simplify the process for this year but it behooves you to apply for the assistance as early as possible so that we can release a tuition contract for you to sign prior to new parent registration.

Our Board has decided to implement a modest tuition increase to offset the burgeoning expenses that the school is incurring due to the impact of the current economic climate. Most schools are discussing tuition increases of 6%-10%. We have implemented a tuition increase of less than3%. With your continued support, we will ensure that Emek is still offering the highest quality General and Torah studies education, while at the same time keeping your children safe and happy.  We are still the most affordable quality program in Los Angeles.

We thank you for your cooperation.  We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with you to inspire the next generation.

Sincerely yours,

Rabbi Mordechai Shifman
